Bulgaria’s first Early Childhood and Family Resource Centre

It is not a kindergarten.  It is not purely a training centre. It is both a meeting place for families with young children and an informal venue where our team demonstrate our methods to fellow professionals. The emphasis on learning through play and exploration applies to children and adults alike.

NATURE AND ADVENTURE

“Time in nature is not leisure time; it’s an essential investment in our children’s health (and also, by the way, in our own).” (Richard Louv). When EQ team members share outdoor adventure with children it is therapeutic and educational for everyone involved. The special needs of the children we work with are no barrier to adventure.

We help them place Tolerance and Compassion at the top of the list.

COMMUNITY ACTION

“Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together.” (Paul Ryan) To achieve success when providing social services for children and families, we engage with our professional peers and decision makers on national and international levels. We work hard to make our facilities hubs of community action. We try to be positive and generous.

SHARING LEARNING

“We learn by example and by direct experience because there are limits to the adequacy of verbal instruction.” (Malcolm Gladwell). EQ believes that an attachment to outcomes discourages the experimentation through which children learn about themselves and reveal their talents. EQ educators facilitate learning through dynamic engagement and avoid instruction. We also believe that if anything is worth learning, it should be presented to children in multiple ways.

SHARING IDENTITY

“If there is one thing that all children have in common, it is the fact that they are all different from one another.” (David Bisset) We work with children at risk. Commonly, they are educationally disadvantaged and their behaviour is challenging. These children are differentiated just as much by the way their brains work as they are by ethnicity or cultural background. We help them to accept and support each other.
