Cultivating herbs has emerged as a theme for our work with children this year and we’ve cleared an area at the rear of the complex so that our young clients can have their own garden.
Oregano, thyme, mint and other medicinal plants will flourish under the tender care of those who attend the centre for street children.
We use the herbs in several ways. We have a tradition of having an urn of hot tea at reception during the cold winter months. Now we can make our own exotic selection of teas.
Dried herbs for cooking and scented cushions are among the product range for our charity bazaars. The children help process, package and sell the products and funds raised go towards the cost of events, visits to places of interest and the summer adventure camp.
