For 18 years the specialists of the Complex for Social Services for Children and Families (KSUDS) in Ruse have been helping to solve various problems of children and their families.
To our great joy, we find that more and more teenagers are replacing screen devices with a good book, and others are trying to express themselves through their own writing. Unfortunately, these girls and young men feel alone because they find it difficult to find like-minded friends and peers to connect with through their interests and talents. In an effort to support one such child, a user of our services, we came up with the idea of creating a literary club. The girl who inspired us to start the club became its godmother and named it ‘Little Exceptions’. With his support, we held meetings in some schools in Ruse to promote our idea and find more supporters. We created a Facebook page /”Small Exceptions”/ to celebrate events and discuss ideas. From a room in the Social Services Complex, with a lot of enthusiasm and minimal resources, we created a “mini library” with books, a “writing room” and a stage for performance. And that’s how we got started.
On 08.08.2024, in the Ruse complex, five teenagers from different schools, a psychologist and a social worker / mentors of the club / we started. As with every group, we discussed and accepted our rules of work, expectations, goals and ideas. We continued with discussions about different authors and reciting original poems to the participants. Through the magic of words the young people were able to bond over interests, get to know each other, be inspired and not least have fun. Our first meeting ended with treats, emotions, laughter and excitement around our next gathering. Meetings with young writers from Ruse are planned. Ruse and other creative initiatives. At the suggestion of the participants, excerpts from favorite books will be acted out on stage with improvised costumes made by them.
The meetings of the club will be held every second Thursday of the month, from 10 am to 12 pm, in the building of the Complex for Social Services for Children and Families (former school Hristo Smirnenski in the district of Ruse). “Rodina”/ , at. Rousse Blvd. “0885 663421 – Sv. 0897311035 – Nadezhda Stoycheva – social worker of the Complex of Services (CSC) of the CSC – Ruse.
We welcome every teenager, aged 12 to 18, who loves a good book, wants to create or just to spend their free time in a more fulfilling and different way. Here each participant will have the opportunity to make new friendships, build on their creative writing skills and talent, and share and communicate respectfully with others.
We look forward to working with more and more teenage bookworms!
