Ruse municipality has developed innovative services for young children and their families and these are to be accommodated in the building that used to house the home for medical care.
The initiative is named “Chance for a Happy Future” and it is part of a package of new integrated services for deinstitutionalization and prevention of abandonment of children aged 0-3. The funding flows through the Operational Programme Human Resources Development 2007 – 2013 that assists the development of community-based services… Continue reading
This is not a fairy tale – it’s the true story of everything that has happened to me in my short life. It will help you to know why I’m a happy seven-year-old although my life didn’t start very well.
I was my mum and dad’s only child and I was very tiny when I was born. When I was still a tiny baby, my dad went to work in another country and I was left with my mum, grandma… Continue reading
The information centre Europe Direct has had a long association with EQ and during 2015 this partnership provided a number of opportunities for our personnel and the children we work with.
The summer programme for the young clients from the cente for street children included a project called “Young Europeans” that involved collaboration with Europe Direct. Children took part in a number of competitions and we are grateful for the gifts of child-oriented literature on European integration and textbooks.

EQ has strong links with Moldova and during 2015 we hosted a visit by a group from the country’s capital, Chisinau. The visit was facilities by colleagues and friends from the organisation CCF-Moldova and representatives were drawn from the city’s child protection system.
During the course of the three-day working visit, the delegates visited an innovative new facility in Gabrovo offering integrated social and healthcare services for mothers and babies. The process of deinstitutionalization is in progress in both Moldova… Continue reading

When we take care of little things, the big things often look after themselves.
EQ is not the same organisation that it was, say, two years ago. By taking on the management of new social services, we have virtually doubled our workforce. We also have big plans for the future.
It felt like a good time for senior managers to chat the staff – individually or in groups – about the things that happen in their working lives on a… Continue reading
Santa Claus and his faithful assistant Snow White brought more than parcels for the youngsters in our small-group homes, Love and Hope. They brought wonder and joy.
Christmas celebrations took place on 14th and 15th December and some of the young adults helped prepare the party fare and lay the tables before the singing, dancing and games began. Not every child likes the boisterous games but none is excluded from the celebration. There are many ways to spread the… Continue reading
Our young clients in the centre for street children have made new friends from the Prista outdoor club. Club members like to get children involved in simple tasks that show respect for the natural world and help protect the flora and fauna. The task on this occasion involved making bird feeders.
But it isn’t just a matter of knocking together a feeder from bits and pieces of material. It’s important to understand the habits of the birds they are designed… Continue reading
Ed Catmull is president of Pixar Animation. He refers to the organisation he helped to found as “Creativity Inc.” and it is clear that he is proud of a company in which “anybody can talk to anyone about anything.”” This is an expression of a core philosophy concerning open communication that allows ideas and suggestions to flow freely around the company with no barriers created by personal status or departmental demarcation. Steve Jobs designed the Pixar headquarters and it’s a… Continue reading
Christmas parties are a tradition at the Ruse complex. Why do we bother writing about something we have done repeatedly?
Well, the 2015 party was a record-breaking event in terms of the numbers of children who attended (more than sixty). The Christmas celebration is something we take very seriously because it touches the lives of a large number of families. It draws together young clients from the centre for street children and the centre of social support, foster… Continue reading
This is the story of Bobby. He’s now 25. In May 2014 he was transferred to our small-group home called “Hope” from a large residential institution for children with intellectual disabilities. The story is one of remarkable progress. Bobby has changed physically, emotionally and psychologically.
The first time we met Bobby (while he was still in the institution), we had to assess his capabilities and take these things into consideration when planning the transfer. Bobby was passive and – if… Continue reading
