David Bisset, chairman of the Ruse-based organization, Equilibrium, spent 14-15th May in the Irish capital, Dublin, representing Bulgaria’s NGO community and childcare service providers at an international conference organized by the European Social Network.

Equilibrium hosts a visit by the Sаuchastie Association from Varna.
The visit took place on 10th May 2013 at Ruse social services complex and we should start by congratulating our Varna colleagues on winning an award from the Dutch Tulip Foundation for 2012 project of the year. It was earned on the basis of tireless effort and hard –won results.

The Ruse complex hosted a working visit by the deinstitutionalization team from Plovdiv’s centre for social support on 25th-26th April, 2013.
The meeting is part of the annual planning process for developing the capacity and professional competence of social workers from the municipal complex for social services in Plovdiv.
During the workshop, the Plovdiv social workers had the opportunity to meet our experienced team and to exchange best practice in the field of social services for children and families.

The complex has established a track record of running fundraising bazaars at which we sell a wide variety of crafts and bits ‘n’ pieces producing by clients, personnel, volunteers and partners.

A number of years ago, Equilibrium’s chairman, David Bisset, was browsing through a book by the Scottish journalist and broadcaster, Cameron McNeish.
He gave accounts of famous trekking routes in the Scottish mountains replete with folklore and local legend. One such account provided detail of a complex mélange of pagan and Christian practice associated with a natural spring where the water was believed to have magical / curative properties. Ruse complex for social services raised 1252 leva by selling handmade cards and martenici during its 2013 spring fundraising campaign
Over a period of 5 days, Equilibrium team members staffed two sales points – one near the city centre and another in Ruse Mall. The martenici and cards made using the quilling technique had been made by young volunteers, foster parents and many friends and partners of the organisation.

On 6 February 2013 a team from Equilibrium, the Complex for Social Services for Children and Families and Hope and Homes for Children – Bulgaria gave a joint presentation to medical staff from Ruse Hospital.
The presentation was with informational and educational and was organized by Ruse Regional Health Inspectorate, together with the local coordinator of the Health Ministry’s deinstiutionalization project ‘DIRECTION: Family’.
